The bus driver and 25 students on the bus were examined by emergency responders but did not require treatment, she said. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
WXIN reported the school’s principal Susan Jordan is the adult who was killed.
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett also spoke.
This afternoon, two children were brought from a Lawrence Township bus accident to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.
Amy Beverland Elementary School confirmed the one fatality on Twitter.
The bus driver was being interviewed by police but it was not clear initially why the bus suddenly lurched forward, Reith said.
Parents who are trying to get to their kids can go to the north parking lot of Amy Beverland School.
The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. near Fox and Oaklandon roads.
Amy Beverland Elementary is in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township, which serves a suburban community of about 95,000 residents.
