Brit Awards plan David Bowie tribute

Sales and downloads of Blackstar, released on the singer’s 69th birthday two days before he died, have soared in the 24 hours since the news of Bowie’s death broke on Monday. Bowie’s death will also be marked by a memorial concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall on March 31.

Despite his decision not to have a funeral, a number of memorial concerts are being held for Bowie, while next month’s Brit Awards will be dedicated to the London-born singer. That’s because David Bowie not only hid his illness from the public – he also kept working tirelessly.

David Bowie was planning another album before his death, and had prepared early recordings of five songs, his longtime producer has said.

He said: “I think, generally, I just can not really envision life without writing and producing records, and singing”. It will feature 20 artists who will all perform songs by Bowie.

Following his death, his 25th studio album Blackstar has charged up the United Kingdom music charts proving just how much of an inspiration he was, and continues to be.

“And I spoke with David about it and he said, “Absolutely that’s the right decision”… but I often wonder what might have been”.

The internet has been overwhelmed with tributes, photographs and paintings of Bowie, who died on Sunday after a private 18-month battle with cancer.

The “Royals” singer shared memories of her first meeting with Bowie at a benefit honoring Tilda Swinton in 2013.

Speaking about the sad news of Bowie’s, Mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, said: “David Bowie had immeasurable talent and demonstrated unparalleled levels of freedom”.
