Patriots dismiss offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo

DeGuglielmo joined the Patriots for their Super Bowl-winning 2014 season, but the offensive line coach he replaced, Dante Scarnecchia, was widely regarded as one of the best in the business.

After a game in which Tom Brady was hit more than any quarterback has been in nearly a decade, the Patriots and offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo parted ways Monday, according to ESPN and other outlets. Captain Dan Connolly retired this past offseason. Ryan Wendell and Nate Solder landed on injured reserve this fall.

The team has not yet made an announcement on who will take DeGuglielmo’s place. Undrafted rookie David Andrews also played a key role on this season’s team. A game in which their defense could not contain a journeyman tight end in Owen Daniels. The 20 hits were more than twice the number they got against Brady in a regular season overtime win, but in that game the Patriots were without receiver Julian Edelman and lost Rob Gronkowski late in the contest.

But it wasn’t just about pass protection.

The Denver Broncos were able to wreak havoc on the Patriots’ offense despite rushing just four players for much of Sunday’s contest.
