Heisman Trophy winners Newton, Palmer meet in NFC title game
Super Bowl 50 will pit something old, the Denver Broncos’ 39-year-old quarterback Peyton Manning, against something new and blue, the Carolina Panthers and their young star Cam Newton. Former Auburn running back Cameron Artis-Payne is a reserve for the Panthers. Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers are ready for the Super Bowl, too.

The Denver Broncos staved off a wild fourth quarter comeback try from the New England Patriots to win the AFC Championship, 20-18 Sunday. The Broncos don’t have any Auburn alumni, but the Patriots do in safety Brandon King. Newton’s 43 career rushing touchdowns during the regular season tied Hall of Famer Steve Young for the most in the Super Bowl era. The start to his long day began with a loss of a couple yards on his first carry, setting the tone for the offense in the first half, who, despite their prestige, did not score a single point until the second half.
Palmer is a pocket passer with a fairly calm demeanor, while Newton is a fun-loving athlete who can beat you with his arm and his feet – no QB in National Football League history has run for more TDs – and then let you know it by “dabbing” in the end zone. That will put someone else on him at times. He’s definitely a unique player.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Cam Newton and Carson Palmer have a few things in common.
The wager also requires the Senator representing the losing team to wear a tie of the NFC champion’s team colors during his speech. During the 2015 season, Kawann Shorts’ 11 sacks were tied for the most by a defensive tackle in the National Football League (along with Aaron Donald and Geno Atkins) and established a Panthers record for most sacks by a defensive tackle. “They’re physical and they’re confident”. This week they could easily catch every ball thrown to them.
“It’s definitely going to be physical”. He’s a 13-year vet – I’m quite sure he’ll bounce back as well as ever. The plan going into this game was to take more risks and be the Cardinals again, but with risk comes the chance things will not work out. “I think they will have to take all of his jerseys away – all five of them, and even the ones at home”. Or will it be a defensive battle, as both teams are fantastic on that side of the ball as well. The home team has covered the point spread in the last four meetings of these two. Meanwhile, Arizona last won the NFC in 2008, making this their second NFC championship appearance. “Whatever team he goes to, I hope it’s in the AFC, so we don’t have to deal with him”.
Regardless of what happened Sunday, you can expect Palmer to be back next season trying to build on what was, for the most part, his best year as a pro.
“It hurts to lose like this, in this fashion”, said Cardinals veteran wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who was held to 30 yards receiving after gaining 176 yards last week against the Green Bay Packers.

“It always helps to have guys, all the guys who have been on Super Bowl teams, to be with the younger players and explain to them”, Arians said.
