In his endorsement of Trump, Falwell suggested that a track record of secular achievement matters a great deal. Cruz, whose father is a pastor and has recruited religious leaders for the Texas senator campaign for the Republican party’s nomination, dropped nine points from the previous week, according to Politico.

When asked about how he squares his evangelical values with Trump’s former social liberal positions, Falwell brought up the example of how his father chose to support Ronald Reagan, a divorced Hollywood actor, over Jimmy Carter, a Sunday school teacher.

Falwell’s introduction at Liberty’s opening semester convocation last week raised eyebrows for how laudatory it was, far more so than for other candidates who have spoken at the school.
Not all national evangelical leaders have been quick to embrace Trump, though.
Four years after Falwell begged him to run, Trump has made the university president’s dreams come true. “I can say that – I don’t have to be politically correct, we’re going to protect it”.

The University claims it has been “training champions for Christ” since 1971.
