Darth Vader may have major role in ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’

What we didn’t know, though, was just how much Vader would figure in the story. We’ve already heard rumors that Darth Vader will appear to some capacity in the film (which I’ll address here as well) and have heard some potential story rumors.

Here’s what Making Star Wars had to say.

Now that the dust is beginning to settle on STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, all eyes are turning to Disney/Lucasfilm’s next adventure to a galaxy far, far away…ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, the first in a series of spinoff anthology tales that will center on various characters at varying points in the Star Wars timline. In addition to suggesting that Darth Vader will have a bigger role than we previously assumed, the report also confirms new Stormtroopers and drops some intel on a scene-stealing droid and new vehicles. If anyone recalls actor Donnie Yen, he had posted some time ago a row of props on a shelf, one of them with an all black ensemble and style, according to a picture posted at Entertainment Weekly in August of previous year. They went on to speculate that Alan Tudyk is playing an Droid that worked for the Empire but was reprogrammed to serve the rebels. The only recent black colored trooper-like ensemble is that of the TIE Fighter pilot. In terms of appearance, the droid has long arms and legs and is very different than a typical protocol droid like C-3PO. The site has a screen grab from Muir’s Facebook saying he started work on “Rogue One” in November, so it’s starting to sound like we really will see Vader on screen.

“Ben Mendelsohn’s new Moff character is indeed the big baddie of ‘Rogue One, ‘” Bleeding Cool stated revealing additional spoilers about the film’s plot. In summation, “the art was more violent than what we’ve seen Darth Vader do on screen before”. So, it looks like we’ll have some cake and eat it, too, with this one. And for fans hoping to see the character again for “Rogue One”, there’s hope: Jones voiced the character as recently as last year’s “Star Wars Rebels”, an animated Disney series set before the events of “A New Hope”. “Gareth is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for Rogue One”.
