‘This might be my last rodeo.’

The Denver Broncos advanced to Super Bowl 50 after beating the New England Patriots in what is likely to be the final match-up between Peyton Manning and the New England duo of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Look for Peyton Manning to give everything he has, because only he knows if Super Bowl 50 is the last time he steps out on the football field as an active player in the NFL.

“Hey, listen, this may be my last rodeo”.

Manning told the Denver Post at the end of the regular season, “I’d be lying if I said I’m not thinking about it (retirement)”.

The comment was reportedly picked up by microphones belonging to cameras shooting for NFL Films.

To the three or four rushers the Denver Broncos sent careening towards Tom Brady on any given down, the five men standing in front of them might as well have been rec league hoopers taking on the Golden State Warriors.

Asked on Monday to divulge what he had shared with Manning, the famously gruff Patriots chief remained tight-lipped. “They got the better of us today, but it was a good game”.

The Broncos and Panthers square off on February 7, Super Bowl Sunday, with Manning seeking his second title. Meanwhile, the game featured a matchup between two legendary rival quarterbacks in the Patriots’ Tom Brady and the Broncos’ Peyton Manning.

Belichick: “You’re a great competitor”.

Scoring more points than usual is another piece of advice Montana had for Manning, who won his first Super Bowl in the 2006 season with the Indianapolis Colts but has since lost his last two trips. “There’s very few young quarterbacks you play and think, ‘This is how we’re going to win a championship.’ It doesn’t happen very often”.

Manning has kept the media guessing about whether or not he’ll be back next season. “From a player’s side, hearing from coaches is one thing, but little nuance things, little details – guys were asking me all type of stuff during OTAs (organized team activities) and stuff like that. So I wanted to take the time to pass that along to them, with how much respect I have for both of them”.

The narrative is can’t miss, and helped along by the fact that Manning plays for the Broncos, who had John Elway for 16 years, and sent him off into the sunset with two Super Bowl victories.
