Gregg Popovich Jabs at Cleveland Cavs for Firing David Blatt
After the San Antonio Spurs’ blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, Gregg Popovich, one of the NBA’s most respected coaches, took a shot at the Cavaliers’ front office in his postgame press conference.

Head coaches whose teams have the best records in each conference following the games played two weeks prior to the All-Star Game serve as the All-Star Game head coaches, but no head coach is allowed to participate in two consecutive All-Star Games.
That’s a double zing, really, since the Cavaliers lost by 34 points to the Warriors four days before Blatt was sacked. Perhaps it was also a commentary on how coaches are treated in the league, fresh off the Cleveland Cavaliers’ firing of David Blatt. And now you can add Gregg Popovich, dean of the NBA’s coaching fraternity, to that chorus of disapproval.
Blatt was sacked due to a “lack of fit with our personnel and vision” according to Griffin and while he might feel Lue is a better fit he certainly doesn’t have the level of experience that Blatt does because he has never been an National Basketball Association head coach before.
Popovich will be coaching his star player Kawhi Leonard in the All-Star Game.

Popovich, 66, coached the West in the 2005, 2011 and 2013 NBA All-Star Games, winning the two most recent appearances.
