Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal blocks midfielder deal

With Manchester United’s Premier League campaign in doldrums, and manager Louis van Gaal facing the possibility of an unceremonious exit, it was a matter of time that former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers would be linked to the job at Old Trafford. Rodgers broke the hearts of United supporters everywhere by announcing that he has no intention of taking over at Old Trafford.

Rodgers is also hopeful that his biggest summer signing, Christian Benteke, who was a second half substitute in last night’s win, can still have a future for Liverpool, despite failing to start in the last number of games. He tried to sign him for Dortmund, so he knows he’s good player.

Rooney added: “The players who joined us a year ago and played against Cambridge and Yeovil in the FA Cup will have seen that an FA Cup tie like this is more of a battle than a football game”.

“We know that and have to be ready for that”.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Rodgers said: “I think when you manage Liverpool that Manchester United job is gone!”

The Red Devils’ coach has come under fire for his style and United’s lack of goals this season, yet Rodgers, who was axed as Reds coach previous year, feels it is as much the players’ responsibility as the coach for some of their lacklustre displays this season. Let’s not forget just before he went to Manchester United, he took Holland to the World Cup and all the Dutch media were right on his back. He recently said: ‘Of course you want to play every game.

‘This is a guy that has been around along time, he built the Ajax team in 1995 that was attacking with possession.

“I need to play more time, and the club will decided [my exit] with my agent”. Yes, it was possession-based football, but it was a real attacking blend of football.
