Street Fighter V included in 2016 Evo tournaments

EVO 2016 looks to be a bombastic event with nine different video games set to grace the Las Vegas Convention Center this summer. It was widely known within the fighting game community that Capcom’s latest Street Fighter would feature, though fewer had expected the previous game to be removed completely.

Another new EVO arrival is Pokken Tournament, Bandai Namco’s new fighting game based on Pokemon. Additionally, the Sunday finals of five games – Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bros.

Last night, Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cueller and Mike Ross announced details for this year’s EVO Championship Series fighting game tournament, including the fact that the finals will be held at a popular UFC venue, Mandalay Bay Events Center. The game released in Japanese arcades back in the summer of 2015, and is set to see a worldwide release this March.

The big news is that Street Fighter 4, the former headline game, is out in favour of its shiny new replacement, Street Fighter 5. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Tekken 7: Fated Contribution, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

The line-up for this year’s EVO tournament has been revealed, and it’s the end of an era somewhat, as Super Street Fighter IV will no longer be part of the schedule.
