North Korea said Friday it had arrested a usa student who, under orders from Washington, had engaged in an unspecified “hostile act” after entering the country on a tourist visa.
North Korea’s official KCNA news agency claimed in a report that the University of Virginia student “was caught committing a hostile act against the state” that was “tolerated and manipulated by the USA government”.
“We should find various and creative approaches, including attempting to hold five-way talks excluding North Korea”, Park said during a policy briefing with top ministers. “The welfare of US citizens is one of the department’s highest priorities”, said Mark Toner, the department’s deputy spokesman.
The United States and North Korea are in a technical state of war because the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty.
The company said it was in touch with the man’s family, the U.S. State Department and the Swedish Embassy, which handles consular affairs for American citizens in North Korea because Washington and Pyongyang do not have diplomatic ties.
The official said the proposed five-way talks are meant to coordinate their stance within the framework of the six-party talks, citing North Korea’s lack of willingness for denuclearization.
Kasich says North Korea should either produce immediate evidence of Warmbier’s alleged anti-state activities or release him immediately.

“I expect China to take effective measures to make sure North Korea can recognise that the development of its nuclear programmes serves no objective, and that it should re-join the global community as Iran did”, Park said.
“In addition to continuing political pressure to exhort the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) to improve human rights, it is also now imperative to pursue criminal responsibility of the DPRK leadership”, said Marzuki Darusman, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in North Korea, in a statement on Friday.
Fowle was detained after leaving a Bible he said he hoped would get to “underground” Christians. He attended high school in Wyoming, a suburb of Cincinnati, and was the salutatorian of his graduating class in 2013, said Susanna Max, spokeswoman for Wyoming City Schools.
The 21-year-old University of Virginia student was visiting North Korea on a tour package and was arrested at Pyongyang Airport on January 2.

“The objective is very clear”, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken said in an interview with NPR.
