Earlier this month Verizon said that it expected to be offering the BlackBerry Priv by the end of March, or possibly sooner. BlackBerry smartphones have been known for security and the launch invite teaser for the Priv reads “the secure smartphone powered by Android”. Tay added the Android Marshmallow update will bring more security features.
Months after rumors suggested that the BlackBerry Priv might launch at T-Mobile, the Android slider has officially hit Magenta’s shelves. The Android 5.1.1 run BlackBerry Priv comes with a 5.4-inch QHD display. In addition, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Hexa-Core, 64-bit processor with an Adreno 418, 600MHz GPU. It boasts an 18MP dual-flash rear camera bundled with optical image stabilisation, PDAF, dual-LED flash, and 4K video recording. The physical keyboard can slide out when required which makes it easy to use and more convenient. There is also a 2MP front snapper on board. The BlackBerry Priv features 32GB internal storage, which is expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card – and is powered by a massive 3410 mAh battery.
With hacking and data theft issues becoming a bigger concern these days, BlackBerry expects keen interest in its pre-loaded DTEK feature that alerts users every time any app attempts to access data, or turn on the phone’s microphone or camera.
