Wolfe insisted the university is “under attack” by the Missouri Legislature, rendering the board of curators “frozen” by the pressure, and asked the email recipients to press the board to sweeten a financial package for him that he’s negotiating the university.
“Who wants to help me get this reporter out of here?” Foley is rebuffing calls for Click to be fired.
Click resigned from her courtesy appointment with the university’s journalism department the day after the incident, but more than 100 Missouri Republican lawmakers have pushed for harsher repercussions.
Click was charged with misdemeanor assault earlier Monday. He said he would wait for due process to play out.
Click has been the subject of severe criticism ever since November 9 of past year, when a viral video captured her altercation with a student journalist at a demonstration following the resignation of MU president Tim Wolfe.
The university system’s governing board of curators announced the move in a statement after a special meeting Wednesday night.
Ben Trachtenberg is an associate law professor who chairs the Columbia campus’ Faculty Council on University Policy.
Click has since issued an apology and resigned a courtesy appointment at the Missouri School of Journalism.
Trachtenberg says “it seems like there are a lot of little scuffles and shoving in this country that don’t lead to the involvement of the criminal justice system”.
The University of Missouri on Wednesday suspended an assistant professor who was charged with assault in a campus fracas with student journalists during protests in November. “It demeans the university that no quick decision has been made”. “We affirm our support of her as a colleague, a teacher, and a scholar, and we call upon the University to defend her First Amendment rights of protest and her freedom to act as a private citizen”.

According to ABC News, Melissa Click’s lawyer entered the plea for her in municipal court on Tuesday. The videographer filed a complaint with university police.
