Even the mighty fall; after a month of ruling the roost at the top of the box office, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has finally fallen to spot number three, bested by Ride Along 2 and The Revenant.

After the success of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, lots of spoilers have been all up on the Internet about the plot for its sequel, “Star Wars: Episode 8”, and it involves the unfolding of the mystery behind the identity of Rey (Daisy Ridley).
A crowded marketplace prevented Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi to have numbers that matched the likes of Lone Survivor and American Sniper in years past. The four-day weekend estimate is $31 million. It has earned US$851 million stateside and US$1.86 billion globally.
In its rocket to the top of the charts, The Force Awakens has also beaten Skyfall (£107.8 million), Avatar (£105.6 million) and Spectre (£94.7 million). Ride Along 2 finds the bickering police officers trying to bring a Miami drug ring to justice.
The weekend’s second-highest earner was twelve-time Oscar nominee The Revenant, which dropped a mere 26% from last weekend, its first in wide release. Falling a lower-than-expected 38%, it has now grossed a staggering $129.2 million domestically. There, the seventh installment of the franchise is doing well ($95.2 million in two weeks), but is not on a recording-setting pace. It turns out, it doesn’t take much to kill Star Wars at the box office once its runs taper off. Here’s a breakdown of what movies took the epic Star Wars saga out of the top spots at the box office. “13 Hours” cost an estimated $50 million to make. Director Abrams hinted strongly that the answers will be coming in “Star Wars: Episode 8” and many think that he has already given some strong hints in the latest movie.

In fourth place was the new release “Go Fighting”, a TV show spinoff that earned $12 million in its opening weekend. That put it ahead of comedy Daddy’s Home, which fell from third to fifth with $9.3 million. ‘Spotlight’ rose 66% with $1.5 million and has a $30.5 million domestic total. The film got a bite taken out of it by Ride Along 2 but is still cruising nicely to profit, with a $81.9 million total thus far in the United States and $94 million worldwide.
