Sydney schools in lockdown over bomb threats

Schools across Sydney and Melbourne have been locked down or evacuated after threats were phoned in, NSW and Victoria Police have confirmed.

Paramedics were seen attending several schools, but there were no reports of injuries, however, students on Facebook expressed shock at the evacuations.

ABC 702 Sydney reported that police operations in New South Wales were “under way at Woolooware High School in the Sutherland Shire and at Penrith High School in Sydney’s west”.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, police operations took place simultaneously at the various schools.

NSW Police are investigating and working with the state’s Department of Education, according to a statement.

“The schools are being evacuated as a precaution”.

Ulladulla Public School was one of a group of schools targeted by bomb threats across NSW on Friday morning.

2GB broadcaster Ray Hadley said all of the threats were understood to be hoaxes.

Footage obtained by Channel Seven showed students and teachers being evacuated from Penrith High School.

“Victoria Police is aware that a number of Victorian schools have received a threatening phone call today”.

Authorities say they have thwarted a number of potential attacks, although there have been several “lone wolf ” assaults in recent months.

It is believed Berwick Chase Primary, Aitken Creek Primary School in Craigieburn and Reservoir High School in Reservoir were among those evacuated.
