“The Defence Ministry has forwarded to CBI complaints received against Maj Gen Ashok Kumar and Maj Gen S S Lamba and has sought a reply”, defence sources said on Thursday, adding that the government will not tolerate corruption at any level.

The Generals are in the dock after the defence ministry asked the CBI to probe the allegation that the officers amassed wealth beyond their known sources of income.
Both officers were awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, the second highest decoration for distinguished service, in 2015.
Their promotions were given an approval during former Military Secretary Lt General R Bhalla (retired).
Allegations of bribe had surfaced in promotions to the rank of Lieutenant General after the Army Promotion Board submitted its recommendations to the Ministry.
In September previous year, the Defence Ministry had barred the promotion of certain officers following allegations of impropriety, reported PTI.
The development comes on the heels of complaints received against the two officers with regard to corruption and DA, the sources said. Also, 33 officers were considered for the same and after few names were cleared by the board, they were sent to the Ministry.
The ministry has asked the country’s premier investigating agency – Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to carry out the probe.

The BRO being a mixed cadre organisation, the issue came up before Army, which took a stand that the act pertained to civilian issue and hence action can not be taken up by them.
