Teacher among 10 arrested in California jailbreak

Police in Santa Ana California today arrested a 44 year old prison english teacher and charged her with helping three murderous inmates escape last week.

Police have said she developed a bond with Nayeri that went beyond a student-teacher dynamic.

The men escaped early January 22 from the Orange County jail after cutting a hole in a metal grate then crawling through plumbing tunnels and onto the roof of a five-story jail building. She is now ineligible for bail, Hallock said, but authorities are expected to ask Monday that her bail be set at $500,000.

He insisted that despite the dramatic nature of the raids – carried out using SWAT teams due to concern about the possible presence of weapons at the locations – investigators are more intent on finding the white van. Several other arrests – for unrelated warrants or probation issues – have also taken place during the manhunt.

Investigators believe they slipped out sometime shortly after the 5 a.m. head count. Tieu was serving time for murder, Nayeri for kidnapping and torture, while Duong is convicted of attempted murder.

Southern California law enforcement officials believe three men who escaped from the Orange County jail are still in the region.

The investigation has centred around a Vietnamese gang in the nearby cities of Westminster and Garden Grove with ties to two of the inmates. Duong is charged with attempted murder, accused of shooting a 52-year-old man in the chest; he survived and identified Duong as his shooter. But in 2014, investigatory say they used a ruse to get Nayeri to the Czech Republic, which has a strong extradition relationship with the U.S. He was arrested in Prague as he was changing flights from Iran to Spain to visit family. “If you see one or more of them, they are to be considered risky and possibly armed- immediately call 9-1-1”.
