He later re-emerged looking slick and sophisticated in a grey suit with a stripy tie for the premiere, where he was faced with a sea of fans gathering outside the Callao cinema in the hopes of meeting him.
Will was inspired by the forensic pathologist’s account of fighting against the National Football League to suppress his research about brain damage suffered by players.
“One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was being invited to join the Academy way back in the eighties, and now I am being told that I no longer deserve to vote because the Academy is too white and too male”, she writes.
The 47-year-old actor and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are just two of the stars choosing to boycott next month’s Academy Awards (28Feb16) after there were no black nominees on the list.
“Secondarily it’s not a racial issue, to me this is not a civil rights issue, this isn’t a black and white issue, the beauty of America is in our diversity that is what the country has always been founded and most successful is when everyone comes in and adds their voice and their ingenuity and initiative”. I want to be a part of the solution’.
Oscars 2016: And the Nominees Are… Smith told Good Morning America that the Oscars failed to reflect America’s diversity.
“First and foremost it’s not us and them, I’m a member of the Academy, so it’s we, so to me there’s a problem that we as a community, a family, have to solve together”, he said. The actor reaffirmed previous statements he made, insisting that the reason he is boycotting the Oscars has nothing to do with the fact that he wasn’t nominated for his performance in “Concussion”.
