Bac Duong, the 43-year-old Vietnamese gang member incarcerated in the Orange County Jail on drug and attempted murder charges, is back in custody.
Hutchens said Duong approached a citizen on the street just before noon and said he wanted to turn himself in.
One of the escaped inmates, Hossein Nayeri, 37, of Newport Beach, took her class at the Central Men’s Jail in Santa Ana and developed a relationship with Ravaghi, Hallock said.
As a massive manhunt continues to find the 3 men, Fox News reports that authorities have arrested about 10 people in connection with the breakout, including a civilian teacher who was brought inside the prison to help inmates integrate into society.
The inmates were last seen inside the jail dormitory at 5 a.m. Friday but had gone missing by the time the next head count was done around 9 p.m., officials said.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department provides a look at the rooftop from which three inmates rappelled during an escape January 22, 2016 from a jail in Santa Ana. Also Thursday, authorities arrested 44-year-old Nooshafarin Ravaghi of Lake Forest.
Ravaghi began working at the jail six months ago as a English as a second language teacher and Nayeri attended one of her classes, according to sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jeffrey Hallock. Hallock said Ravaghi has denied providing Nayeri with any tools used in the escape.
OC sheriff’s SWAT units raided two locations in Westminster Thursday evening in a fruitless search for the three escapees.
The van has paper license plates from Felix Chevrolet, with plate number 8U66466, although the plates may have been removed and replaced.
Nayeri moved to the US with his family as a child.
