No charges expected in Wisconsin fire that killed 3 children

While there’s no definitive cause yet of a fire that killed three children in Sheboygan Falls, authorities have confirmed that the parents were indeed at Bible study when the blaze occurred. On Thursday, 10-year-old Benjamin passed away. “I thought a lot of people were going to look today, so I figured why not hit them up for money”, said Witt.

That child told a neighbor, who called 911 around 9 p.m., and firefighters responded within minutes.

Their brother, Carter Maki, 7, died at a hospital in Sheboygan after the fire that broke out about 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Western Ave., authorities said. Nine-year-old Jenna Martin was able to get out of the home safely thanks to what is being described as the heroism of her big sister, Natalie.

The parents say a service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Southside Alliance Church in Sheboygan. There’s a fund at Associated Bank in Sheboygan to help the Maki family with expenses, and a Go-Fund-Me Internet account raised $101,000 in donations by early Friday morning. He said smoke alarms were working.

Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe DeCecco said he’s still waiting for a final report from state investigators on the actual cause and said the initial indication was that it might have been some electrical issue. And he says it would take a “major revelation” for him to press charges against the parents.
