Gov. Rick Snyder secures $28 million in immediate aid to Flint residents

The notification stated that water coolers were being installed on each occupied floor next to the drinking fountains so that state workers could choose to continue to drink Flint water or a safe alternative.

“There was a failure at the local, state and federal level”, the governor said.

Snyder said the extension ensures Flint residents will have access to bottled water, filters, and testing kits, while long-term solutions are sought.

Moore laid out five points, among them retribution for those he says caused the problem and a combination of state and federal responses. There is no evidence that the state took steps to warn residents at the same time it spent money to provide its employees with a “choice” of water supplies.

While attorneys have subpoenaed all emails and communications between Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) over the ongoing Flint water crisis, a few details have been released showing what can only be described as depraved indifference on the part of state workers to the plight of Flint citizens.

People all across the country are talking about shipping water to Flint in order to help abate the problem, and large water companies that have not yet stepped up to the plate to donate bottled water are being roundly criticized.

On Thursday, U.S. Senate Democrats proposed up to $400 million in emergency federal aid for Flint – spending contingent on the state matching the funds dollar for dollar.

President Barack Obama announced a week ago that $80 million in new funding would be available to MI to help the state improve its water infrastructure.

In an email a “Flint Water Advisory” was sent out by the facilities department stating that there had been violations in Flint’s drinking water standards.

Snyder said he has gotten support through what he called a “challenging” time.

Also on Wednesday, a coalition of Flint residents and national groups filed a lawsuit asking a Detroit federal court to compel city and state officials to replace all lead water pipes promptly and at no cost to residents.

Residents noticed smelly, discolored, dirty-looking water soon after that, only to get assurances from officials that it was safe to drink.

The city’s water is now undrinkable after it became contaminated when Flint switched from the Detroit water system to the Flint River as a cost-cutting move. How many people in the city who have been using the tap water, even with filters, is unclear.

Democratic House members from MI are also calling for Snyder to appear before Congress.

The Senate and House also passed a resolution extending that emergency declaration for 73 days.

“I always try to think of the person in Flint (who) can’t use the water coming out of the tap, and what their life is like”, Snyder said.
