‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ clobbers competition, tracking for $40 Million weekend
DreamWorks’ animated sequel “Kung Fu Panda 3” is vanquishing its competition at the domestic box office this weekend, outstripping other new releases including “The Finest Hours” and “Fifty Shades of Black” easily, according to studio estimates.

THE FINEST HOURS – Members of a coast guard station in MA are sent on a death-defying rescue mission when an icy storm off the coast of Cape Cod starts smashing ships to pieces. The Disney release, starring Chris Pine, Casey Affleck and Ben Foster, is expected to gross about $10 million for its opening weekend.
This “conclusion” to the Kung Fu Panda series was well worth the wait!
The movie is based on the non-fiction book of the same name that recounts the rescue of the SS Pendleton in 1952.
Holdovers “The Revenant” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” continue to do big business, this weekend coming in at No. 2 and No. 3 behind “Panda”.
