Khang, from Rockland, Massachusetts, tied for sixth at Q-school in December to earn a tour card.

Nordqvist and Hull, who finished on 12-under, are closely followed by Stacy Lewis, Hyo Joo Kim and defending champion Sei Young Kim who are in a tie for third on 11-under.

Wie was stung on the palm of her right hand on the 16th hole, her seventh of the day.

Hull is in her second season on the LPGA Tour after a solid rookie season in 2015. “I was hitting the ball so well on the front nine and just definitely had a couple loose ones coming in making the turn”.

This year is “something that’s really different from last year where I didn’t really know where I was going to play or what events, where this year I can plan in advance”. They’re so good. Over the last couple of years, I’ve noticed that if I could improve a little bit, it’s definitely around the green.

“I enjoyed it, I thought it was fun”, she said.

Woodland, Choi tied for lead at Torrey Pines: Phil Mickelson was expecting to post a low score on the North Course at Torrey Pines and go into the weekend with a chance to win the Farmers Insurance Open.

“Apart from that I just kind of did what I’ve been doing all week, (stayed) focused, one shot at a time, made some birdies”. “I have worked really hard”.

Unlike in the first round where she bucked the wind and cold on a late start, the Filipina ace struggled while teeing off in the first flight, bogeying two of the first six holes on missed green mishaps.

Park shot an 80, playing her final four holes in five-over with a double-bogey on the par-five 15th and three bogeys. The question, as is true with all teen prodigies, is can she keep up anything close to the pace she has set without burning out or stumbling as she fights to have a life outside of golf. Dustin Johnson was one shot back at 8-under.
