“BJP is spreading garbage across the city”.

“Delhi BJP strongly condemns Kejriwal’s ministers for raising this ghost employees issue to tarnish the image of sanitation workers on strike for their rightful wages”.

Coming down hard on the three municipal bodies, the Deputy Chief Minister alleged that striking sanitation workers were “instigated” to throw garbage in front of his residence and office. He said that if the government has to provide more money to the corporations, it would be unable to pay salaries to its employees, including Delhi government doctors and teachers.

In October past year, sanitation workers struck work over non-payment of their salaries. “They have worked. They are asking for their rights”, Kejriwal tweeted.

“Tomorrow (Saturday), we will protest at Delhi assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel’s home in Vivek Vihar (in east Delhi) and dump garbage there”, he said. “If the corporations are so fund-starved, they should approach the LG to get these dues cleared”, said Sisodia. “How will it pay to those lifting the garbage now?” asked Sanjay Gehlot, president of Swatantra Mazdoor Vikas Sanyukt Morcha.

Meanwhile, the Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party wrote an open letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the financial crisis of municipal corporations, with state unit chief Satish Upadhyay urging him to rise above party politics and discharge his responsibilities to the people of Delhi. “With no garbage lifted in the last three days, the health of the residents is at risk”, said Ravinder Gupta, Mayor, North MCD.

“Despite a court order on it earlier, Delhi government has not released the funds under the 3rd DFC or implemented the recommendations of the 4th DFC or constituted the 5th DFC. SDMC employees are paid salaries on time and this dereliction of duty is causing inconvenience to residents”, said the corporation in a statement.
