Los Angeles to hold All-Star Game for third time

The Los Angeles Kings and the Staples Center will play host to the 2017 NHL All Star Game.

The 2017 NHL All-Star Game will be the third time the NHL All-Star activities will take place in Los Angeles. February 2, 2002 – Team World defeated Team North America in the 52nd NHL All-Star Game, Jaroslav Modry and Ziggy Palffy representing the Kings in front of hometown fans. Darryl Sutter will be coaching in his second All-Star game, the only other Kings coach to lead an All-Star team was Barry Melrose in 1994 at Madison Square Garden.

Staples Center also was the venue for the 2010 National Hockey League draft. The two winners will meet in a 20-minute championship game.

While the NHL All-Star Weekend is underway in Nashville, Tennessee this weekend, next year’s host has already been chosen.

The league has been set to introduce its new 3-on-3 All-Star game format Sunday.

In his yearly address at the league’s All-Star Game, this year in Nashville Commissioner Gary Bettman officially confirmed that the game would be headed to the Los Angeles next year. Sutter, Quick and Doughty are participants in Sunday’s game at Bridgestone Arena.
