Brian Urlacher is not a fan of Cam Newton’s celebrations

People don’t like that Cam Newton is likely to win MVP (though I don’t know if he’s necessarily the most deserving) and some just don’t like him because he’s black.

Cynics can roll their eyes all they want when it comes to Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and the topic of race and culture, but he’s a big part of an important discussion.

Nothing but compliments for Cam Newton after completely bashing Tom Brady.

“I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to”, Newton said Wednesday during his weekly news conference as the Panthers prepared for Super Bowl 50 on February 7 against the Broncos. The other five are Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks, Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers, retired Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, Steve McNair of the Tennessee Titans and Williams, who is well aware that Newton cited race as a reason Newton thinks he’s been criticized so harshly this season.

He went on to say that analysts “just can’t appreciate the greatness of Peyton [Manning]”, the Broncos’ starting quarterback, who is white. “That never happens.” “You should consider yourself lucky”, she told Jaden after the game.

Now in his fifth season, Newton has shattered those characterizations, accounting for 45 touchdowns during the 16-game regular season, including 35 passing TDs. “This is from the first Super Bowl they won”, he said.

If the Broncos can deliver a reasonable run-stopping effort, it would force Newton into uncomfortable territory: having to beat a team from a more modern approach.

The retired linebacker’s preference for Manning’s touchdown celebrations doesn’t mean he’s rooting for the Broncos to win the Super Bowl.

“He’s a great player”.

Newton may not need many more deals to make him the NFL’s highest-paid endorser.

“I’ve said this since day one, ” Newton said earlier Thursday morning. “If I answer it truthfully it’s going to be ‘Aw, he’s this or that.’ But I will say it anyway”. I don’t think he spends a lot time with what people think about him if it’s not positive.

Newton said he hasn’t changed, and has previously responded to his critics. But Newton said his conversation with Oher was different. “That made me feel at home, made me know that they wanted me”. They talk about skillset…. Nor should he. He is one of the most refreshingly demonstrative athletes we’ve seen, and his joy for the game is simply boundless.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera doesn’t believe Newton should have to fight perceptions about race.

“Yes”, said coach Rivera.

Miller suffered an ACL tear in Week 16 at Houston, the same day Peyton Manning broke the single-season record for touchdown passes.

In the end, you are allowed to like and dislike whomever you want, but if you dislike Newton because he dances and celebrates first downs and poses for selfies with teammates then it might be time to put away your rotary phone, get rid of your VCR and join the 21st Century.
