Travel issues aside, doctors are particularly concerned about the effect Zika will have on countries where abortion is illegal, and fear women will put their health at risk via back alley procedures. So far there have been 31 confirmed cases in 11 states all from returning travelers that did not originate here.

The Zika virus is spreading – and the big question is whether it will lead to a huge outbreak in the United States. Whether Zika virus infection causes these conditions has not yet been established. US airlines is offering to refund tickets for pregnant woman travelling to regions of Latin America, including areas of Mexico where cases have been reported. The mosquito that carries Zika isn’t typically in our area, but another type that could carry the virus is.
Many people who get the virus don’t have any symptoms, but some people experience fever, rash, and conjunctivitis.
