Bernie Sanders Challenges Hillary To Three New Debates

If elected, Sanders would be the oldest president to assume office, surpassing Ronald Reagan who was 69 when he entered the White House.

Both Sanders and his chief rival, Hillary Clinton, are competing to portray themselves as the person who will best preserve and build upon Obama’s legacy.

Clinton did not come out in favor of gay marriage until 2013, after President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden had done so the previous year.

“She’s had that job, and (Sanders has) had a job, too, and she went overseas, but what I’m saying is the biggest foreign decision that had to be made in terms of foreign policy was whether or not to go into Iraq and go into war, and she failed that test”, Sarandon said.

On Wednesday evening, the Sanders campaign called for three more debates, in March, April and May. “On the road with Hillary every day, I see countless women, men, girls, and boys of all colors and creeds who are inspired by Hillary, and excited to make her vision a reality”. Pete D’Alessandro, who is directing the Iowa operation for Sanders, said the staffing has grown from two people in May to over 100 today. “If not, I think we’re going to be struggling”, he noted.

Sanders’ campaign said it always planned to release his health status prior to Monday’s Iowa caucuses, but Thursday’s showing followed a planned attack by a Clinton surrogate calling on Sanders to divulge his medical history. The DNC refused to sanction the Union Leader/MSNBC debate, which would take place February 4, and it has said candidates participating in unsanctioned debates would forfeit their ability to be in any of the remaining debates.

Amy Dacey, the DNC’s chief executive officer, said on Twitter earlier Wednesday that “Democrats have a debate schedule, and we’re sticking to it”.

“I think it’s a long process and I think that the inevitability of Hillary Clinton certainly is no longer inevitable”, Lesniak said. “We want to be the United States of America”.

The survey also showed that Sanders leads among younger voters, first time caucus goers, and independents – three groups that tend to be less likely to caucus.

Marco Rubio laid into Sanders in response to a moderator’s question, knocking his Senate colleague over his democratic socialist outlook.

“But this is the future of the Democratic party”, he said.

“They’re trying to stop me before I get too far”. As one former Wall Street executive pointed out, the banks are giving her money – both directly to her campaign and for her speeches – because they want an ally in the White House.

His praise of Clinton’s experience in an interview, twinned with his comparison of Bernie Sanders as a “bright, shiny object”, were widely interpreted as a Clinton endorsement.

A Clinton spokesman said this spot would fall into the same rotation the campaign is running in Iowa. “The difference in a caucus situation is you can actually saturate to the point, even if you have a huge lead or you are very popular, in one area”.

“There’s a number of issues where she has come around but she very clearly equivocated or was not there in the beginning”, she tells the outlet. “And I intend to articulate those issues, that’s what a campaign is about”. “And I think the (Democratic National Committee) and the campaigns should be able to work this out”.
