Calvin Johnson told Jim Caldwell 2015 was his final season
Through the last few years, Johnson has been hampered by injuries, but still managed more than 1,200 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2015.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Detroit Lions superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson told his family and close friends before the start of the 2015 National Football League season that it would be his last.
After the season, Johnson, 30, gave Lions coach Jim Caldwell the same message. He remains the Lions’ all-time franchise leader in career receptions (734) and receiving yards (11,619). And if a recent report from ESPN is any indication, he’s indeed on the edge of calling it quits.
Calvin Johnson will turn 31-years-old in September, and some have said that he is starting to wind down and his production is lessening.
In 15 career games against the Vikings, Johnson finishes with 81 receptions for 1,095 yards and nine TDs.
Johnson was a six-time Pro Bowl selection. That game was sorely needed on both ends, but the Ravens limited Johnson’s effectiveness and used the momentum from that game to win more and edge into the playoffs. I don’t know if I want to believe he’s actually done or if he’s retiring now so that he can take some time then come back with a new team since no other team would ever touch his contract.
Johnson has pulled in about $106.4 million over his career.
The turn of events is eerily similar to that of Lions great Barry Sanders, who also retired at age 30.
