Stephen Colbert Makes Donald Trump Debate Himself

The Republican frontrunner ditched a live Fox News battle with other leading candidates after a row with the TV station.

“I’m a maniac and everyone on this stage is stupid, fat and ugly”, said Texas Sen. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who has a small but loyal base in Iowa, said that even though he hasn’t been in government, he’s made plenty of life-and-death decisions as a doctor.

Consider the latest polling out of Iowa: The Real Clear Politics’s averaging of recent polls has Trump at 33 percent and Cruz at 26 percent. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, asked a question about anti-Muslim discrimination, mentioned Trump, who has suggested banning temporarily banning Muslims from entering the United States and creating a registry of Muslims in the country.

“I kind of miss Donald Trump”.

A CNN/ORC Poll released on Tuesday, found that Trump’s support among Republicans is now more than double that of his closest rival, Cruz, with 40 to 19 percent support. With Santorum attending Trump’s rally in Iowa to raise money for wounded veterans, he could garner himself some much needed attention, since he didn’t qualify for the main debate stage.

We will continue to see more moves like this from the Trump camp as the election roles along. There was one noticeable voice missing from center stage, however: Donald Trump opted to skip the debate after a spat with Fox News.

He previously blasted the glamorous blonde journalist as a “lightweight”, and posted raunchy photographs of her online yesterday calling her a “bimbo”.

Rubio didn’t necessarily hit a home run in a Trump-less Fox News-hosted debate that was at times a snoozer, but he did stand out above the rest of the pack.

“I think people know we have to further the progress that has been made under President Obama”, Clinton said.

I can not believe Rubio doesn’t just say, “yeah, I’ve rethought the issue, and concluded the path to citizenship is a bad idea” instead of trying to insist he really said “blanket amnesty”, and meant something different. Contributions to the site will go to The Donald J. Trump Foundation, Trump’s nonprofit charitable organization.

Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie removes his suit jacket as he takes questions during a campaign stop in Iowa Cit on Saturday.

During Thursday’s GOP debate in Des Moines, Rubio and Cruz bickered over their authenticity on such issues as immigration reform.

And kudos to Cruz who had the courage to be against ethanol subsidies in the state of Iowa.

Trump’s Republican opponents, sensing a chance to cut into Trump’s commanding lead in national surveys of Republican voters, mocked him for his refusal to debate. Still, for what it’s worth, Frank Luntz said his focus group loved Rubio’s answers.

Bush and Rubio are competing with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich to win over the GOP’s centrist wing.

At his event across town, Trump was joined onstage by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who won the Iowa caucuses in 2008, and former Pennsylvania Sen. But the exchange just served to remind Iowa caucusgoers that the longest-serving governor in history thinks Cruz is unfriendly to one of Iowa’s important industries.

“I didn’t want to be here, to be honest, I wanted to be about five minutes away” at the debate, he told the crowd. By attempting to define themselves along the axis of his personality-in other words, in Trump’s terms-it seemed as if the candidates, over time, had forgotten how to be themselves.
