Fiber Phone will require a service visit and the installation of some new equipment as well as switching – or porting an existing number – to “a phone number that lives in the cloud”. What this means is that they also get a phone service alongside their gigabit internet connection from Google.

The new feature will include a voicemail service which could transcribe the messages to be sent over e-mail. The service has been available for quite some time, and will soon be made available to all the users. Reports suggest the company has begun toying with adding an additional phone service. Google only welcomed clients who joined its Trusted Tester plan, which is basically the opt-in try out version.
