J&K Impasse: Mehbooba Mufti Calls PDP Meeting on 31 January
For the second time yesterday, top leaders of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held a closed-door meeting at the Muftis’ residence in Srinagar.

Following the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has made a decision to re-negotiate the terms of the alliance.
The uncertainty over govt formation continues in Jammu & Kashmir, even three weeks after demise of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 07.
Mehbooba is scheduled to meet the Governor on Tuesday afternoon, which will be followed by a meeting between Vohra and the Bharatiya Janata Party state president.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders argue that the two sides had formed an alliance on the basis of the “Agenda of Alliance”, which was reached after consultation between senior leaders of BJP and Sayeed.
Responding to questions, he said, “Mehbooba will take a call, surely, on the basis of “Agenda of Alliance” once she is convinced and the party is convinced that the trust reposed by us in the entire country through that document (Agenda for Alliance) is reciprocated”.
The NC said, “A continued delay in government formation has put J&K in a precarious constitutional situation”.
But the same sources ruled out any fresh assurances on the alliance agenda.
The confusion got further compounded on Sunday when Mehbooba Mufti told her party leaders she was not ready to become the chief minister of the state “for nothing”.
Lending credence to this is the PDP’s announcement that no discussions on government formation will be discussed during the party meeting called in Srinagar on January 31.
Sources said that PDP is waiting for the “action” from BJP side, BJP leads Union government from New Delhi, on Agenda of Alliance.
Satpal Sharma, BJP President Jammu and Kashmir said, “We will meet Governor NN Vohra tomorrow evening and will submit out report on the government formation in the state”.
“We hope the government of India will take concrete measures towards implementation of “Agenda of Alliance” in the interest of peace and stability of the state and the region”, she said. “However, some leaders and legislators wanted to know Mehboobaji’s views on government formation”, a party leader said.
“The goal of alliance was not just to form the government”.

“Even though the PDP-BJP government, under the leadership of Sayeed, performed extraordinarily and took some pioneering developmental and welfare initiatives, these could not make a mark among the people because of some unsettling issues being raised by certain quarters repeatedly”, Mehbooba said.
