Trump, Cruz tamp down expectations for uncertain Iowa vote

Campaigns are not required to report January totals just yet, so the Sanders announcement was seen as an effort to create a sense of growing momentum and broad-based appeal on the eve of the key Iowa caucuses.

“Bernie speaks forcefully to the anxiety that both young people have and the middle class has”, said former Sen. “They are working, in many cases, longer hours for lower wages …”

Almost 50 percent of caucus goers have said they may change their mind before making a final decision later tonight, putting Iowa up for grabs. Bernie Sanders, whose unapologetically liberal campaign has tightened the race ahead of Monday’s caucuses… “We’ll have great people around us, and I think we’ll be just fine conducting a foreign policy that the people of America will be proud of”, Sanders said.

Hillary Clinton came on stage in Iowa’s largest city Des Moines after an introduction by her husband the ex-president Bill Clinton.

“If you had told me 10 months ago that the day before the Iowa caucuses we’d be in a statistcal tie for first place I would have been thrilled and exhilarated”, Cruz told Fox News late Sunday.

Candidates’ performances in – or decision to forego – the Thursday’s seventh Republican presidential debate, however, could impact whom voters throw their support behind come Monday evening.

Voters on the ideological edges, who dominate both parties in Iowa, have made Sen.

And voters see through that and in time it will catch up with him. While Sanders has a large team in Iowa, his operation got off to a later start, particularly compared with Clinton, who has had staff on the ground in the state for almost a year.

Republican presidential contender Donald Trump says “many” senators will endorse his candidacy, “very soon”.

Still, a vote can only go to one candidate and Trump is the top choice overall, if the poll is right. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump pauses with a sign with his autograph on it while greeting his supporters at a rally Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

On NBC’s Meet the Press, Cruz said he is the only true conservative who can win and refused to trade insults with other candidates.

Since 1972 no Democratic of Republican candidate who finished worth than fourth place in the Iowa Caucus has gone on to win their party’s nomination.

Donald Trump isn’t shy about boasting, but the Republican presidential front-runner says he also has a humble side.

But the Democratic race is slightly tighter, with former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton edging ahead of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Katherine Vega, a student at Iowa told Breitbart News she supports Sanders because, unlike Clinton, he’s politically consistent.

A Trump loss would put a dent in his self-identity as a victor and create vast pressure for a better performance in the next contests in New Hampshire on February 9 and SC on February 20.

The Democratic poll showed Sanders leading Clinton among almost every demographic group, with his strongest support, 66 percent, coming from voters under 35, while 64 percent of voters between 35 and 49 said they will support him. If not, their backers can either choose not to participate or can join another viable candidate’s group.
