Wireless iPhone charging could be just a year away

Apple wants to radically change how you charge your iPhone.

There have been rumors that iPhone 7 will have the wireless charging capability in place with its release which made some of us wonder how Apple is going to introduce this feature into the new iPhone. Considering the recent earnings call, we couldn’t agree more.

There are definitely people considering putting that in box … any time somebody talks about adding content inside a box, inside the box it ships with the phone, you can imagine the agonizing that goes into any additional micro-penny that gets added to the box.

In 2014 it applied for a patent on specialized housing for a mobile device with an integrated RF antenna, which would also allow for wireless charging by helping to eliminate the problem of metallic interference with charging signals. The iPhone maker is working with several partners in the United States and Asia to create a solution where iPhones and iPads can be charged across the room, rather than using an inductive charger and power mat. Apple’s improved tech would allow users to charge their devices from farther away, Bloomberg reported.

Apple has made a patent application previously for a system accessing the iMac personal computer in the form of a hub for wirelessly charging at a distance of near 1 meter through the utilization of a technique named near-field resonance. Sources told Bloomberg that the technology could be deployed on iPhones as soon as next year.

The more distance between the device and the charging plate, the longer the device takes to recharge. Some of Samsung’s newer phones, such as the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, support high-speed wireless charging. Current wireless charging solutions require gadgets to be within close proximity to a charging mat.
