Several hundred people lined up outside Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica on Thursday to get a chance to pay their respects to Celine Dion’s late husband, Rene Angelil.
Celine Dion and her husband Rene are both two people beloved by Canada and the world and many are saddened by his death.
Ryan Remiorz/AP Celine Dion kisses the casket after funeral services for Rene Angelil at Notre-Dame Basilica. Angelil died on January 14, in Las Vegas at the age of 73. And this was her great love, and we had to be there for her. They’re inseparable-they’re like one person, and now she lost half of herself. He also has other children from his previous marriage namely Anne-Marie, Patrick, and Jean-Pierre.
Dion walked into the church first with her youngest sons Eddie and Nelson; her eldest, Rene-Charles, followed close behind helping Dion’s mother Therese as the family arrived at the national funeral for Rene Angelil. “I understood that if he ever left us, I should continue without him, for him”, the message said. “I can not tell you right now that I’m going to work”. I have to show myself, my husband and my kids, and I am strong and we’re okay.
The premier called Dion’s worldwide success a source of pride for Quebec and noted Angelil was there to help develop her career.
The flag at the legislature in Quebec City will be flying at half-mast Friday, to commemorate the funeral of Rene Angelil.
“Celine is Quebec. She is an ambassador for Quebec”.
Dion’s family accepted Premier Philippe Couillard’s offer for the government to play a role in the organization of the funeral.
