Canon will be announcing the pricing and availability of the EOS-1D X Mark II at a later date. It sports a sharper 1.62 million-dot 3.2-inch screen, a new autofocus system with 61 points (41 cross-type) and a built-in GPS. Crafted to give photographers a competitive edge from the second they shoot, the EOS-1D X Mark II establishes a new benchmark for speed – shooting 14 frames per second (fps) with full AF/AE tracking and 16 fps in Live View mode – ideal for capturing high-speed subjects, whether in the wild, or at world-class sporting events. The new DSLR camera supports 4K video recording and features two image processors. This is possible with the new addition of the CMOS AF (dual-pixel) and Movie Servo AF. Also, the camera is capable of delivering as many as 170 RAM images in just a single burst. AF sensitivity in lowlight has been doubled from EV -2 to EV -3 at the center AF point when the camera is set to One-Shot AF, enabling the camera to autofocus in extremely dark shooting conditions such as a moonlit nightscape. Say hello to the 1D X MarkII, whose overkill will surely be embraced by professional photographers everywhere. As we said earlier, this touchscreen can be used during Live View shooting and Movie shooting for things like AF Point Selection, but can also be disabled if you like your shooting a bit more traditional. The camera’s ability to shoot at 60p means sports and wildlife photographers can now pick one out of the sixty images in every second of the video, thereby achieving a much higher image hit-rate and improving work efficiency. The new 360,000 pixel RGB + IR metering sensor and EOS iTR AF system on the EOS-1D X MARK II greatly improves tracking precision. The camera also features improved controls and more in-camera image quality enhancements than ever before, including a Digital Lens Optimizer function offering high quality aberration correction which can now be achieved without an external computer.
Boasting a wide and versatile ISO range – an incredible 100 to 51200, expandable from 50 up to 409600 – the EOS-1D X Mark II excels in all lighting environments, from the brightest through to near darkness. This allows all the photos to be tagged with accurate location information.
