Bowlsby Happy with 10 Teams
He also pointed out that the game matching the two highest-ranked teams on Championship Saturday last season was not a conference championship game, but the Kansas State-Baylor game. In a follow-up, Bowlsby was asked whether being left out previous year placed the conference at a psychological disadvantage. And they were really one of the only schools that gave me a chance to play quarterback. “I think our frustration is understanding that winning is the most important thing and all the rest will come”. Regardless, football season officially started in Dallas on Monday. Bowlsby said “we took the approach to manage it as opposed to prohibit it”.

The NCAA restricts teams to three days of contact per week – including game days. Bowlsby said the new policy had the approval of the conference’s coaches, and in many cases, programs were now conducting just two contact practices per week. Patterson wasn’t alone, either.
The Big 12 is strengthening its stance on player safety by limiting its contact days to just two days a week, including game day. “We need to get better in every single way”.
This is one fewer than NCAA rules mandate so the conference is taking a proactive stance to try to preserve the health of their student-athletes.
Bowlsby says some Big 12 leaders feel strongly about staying at 10, others feel the same about expanding, and others in middle could be persuaded either way. Calling Cincinnati a no-brainer, however, makes me think this guy is a UC grad based on the Twitter trashing I took in the past week.
“I don’t think there’s critical mass for expansion, ” he said. “We don’t want to just participate in the playoff; we want to win championships”.
“I haven’t really thought back on it too much”, Kingsbury said. What do we have to do?
A year ago, when they were coming off a 4-8 season in 2013, the Horned Frogs were picked to finish seventh.
Bowlsby said the 2014 season, which ended with no Big 12 teams in the first College Football Playoff, “was hard to accept”. While Bowlsby didn’t rule out the possibility, he basically played both sides in his answer. 12 teams with a divisional structure means they might only see that pair at home once every four years. Here’s are some of the best quotes of the day. He said the change “is identical to what our needs are”. “We can’t deny that”. “Now we’re the only conference that does not do that and have that particular format”. There are 40 juniors and seniors on the two-deep list, and more than 50 guys who have played in Big 12 games. “We’re a real tight locker room”.
Bonus topic: While Bowlsby didn’t talk about it, it appears the Big 12 has a new motto.
Of the teams mentioned in this article, BYU is the one that makes the most sense because it is already a household name.
Not after the media selected TCU to win the Big 12 conference in the preseason poll.

Said Kansas State coach Bill Snyder: “It will not affect us because the rule defined as it is in place right now – and we’ve had discussions of it in our conference meetings – is identical to what our needs are”.
