What’s perhaps most interesting about Nintendo’s comments is that they directly contradict what the company said less than a year ago.
Looking at software sales, Splatoon was Nintendo’s best selling title over the past nine months, selling 4.06 million units worldwide. To date, Nintendo has sold approximately 31mn amiibo – including 20 million since April – and 21 million amiibo cards. Nintendo also reported a new income of ¥29.1bn (£168m), which was just short of the company’s ¥33.2bn forecast. Unsurprisingly, the company’s profits were down over the same period last year, which translates to ¥40,558 million ($336M) – compared to ¥59,515 million ($493M) the year before, a %32 slide.
Mario Kart 8 continues to perform well, with another 1.37 million units sold, bringing its total up to 7.24 million. The powered-up overhaul will include an updated interior design, new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS demo units, a 15-foot gaming screen and more fun elements and surprises. At one time the king of the home console market, Nintendo’s modern generation hardware just isn’t keeping pace with the competition in terms of sales, and as a result, profits are down. A massive coin (pictured below) will greet visitors upon entry, as will a 15-foot screen featuring the latest Wii U titles.
Unless you followed the gaming industry closely in the mid 90s, it’s likely you’ve never heard of what is widely regarded as Nintendo’s worst video game console.

It is believed that the upcoming Nintendo NX would be a working platform for fans and gamers, allowing them to play mobile and console titles on both titles, in addition to a wide array of titles to subscribe to.
