McDavid said the possibility of re-injuring his collarbone is remote since the Oilers held him out of the lineup until they were certain the surgically repaired bone had completely healed.

Before the injury his career was off to an incredible start with 12 points in his first 13 games, including 11 in the eight games that preceded the injury.

The 19-year-old rookie phenom will play his first game since he piled into the boards against the Philadelphia Flyers on November 3.

1 overall pick in 2015, Connor McDavid, has missed 37 games since breaking his clavicle one month into the season, but the rookie star is expected to return soon.

McDavid has recently been practising with Bakersfield Condors, the Oilers’ American Hockey League affiliate. Edmonton received their lone goal off the stick of Leon Draisaitl but Cam Talbot gave up three goals on 24 shots at the Oilers skid reached three games with Edmonton falling 19-26-5. Edmonton is looking for better results in the second half as it ranks last in the Pacific Division – and Western Conference – after carrying a three-game slide into the break.

He said he’s not going to let the injury play on his mind when the puck drops Tuesday night against Columbus. “They say it’s safe to play, so it’s safe to play”.

“The whole point of this was kind of to take some contact”, McDavid said Friday, via NHL.com.

Taylor Hall didn’t practice Monday after being in Nashville for the all-star game over the weekend. I feel pretty good, as good as I could be. “You know that you’ve done everything possible to come back and be 100 per cent healthy again”.

“I know everyone is excited in here, I don’t think anyone feels out of it (the hunt for a playoff berth) by any means”, McDavid told reporters. “Based on how he’s skated today and knowing all the work he’s put in, I’m not as anxious about him as I am some others”.
