The winners and near-winners of Iowa’s caucuses
“This is the power of the conservative grassroots and there is a silent majority in this country”, Cruz told CNN.

Ted Cruz was the big victor on the Republican side, with his victory providing a twist worthy of the topsy-turvy race.
After a dramatic night in Iowa, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s campaign claimed a slim victory over Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in Iowa’s Democratic Caucuses.
(CNN)Fresh off their battle for Iowa voters, the presidential candidates are gearing up for the next front: New Hampshire.
Mr Cruz gets eight delegates, Mr Trump and Mr Rubio seven each, three for retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and one each for Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. The problem for the billionaire businessman was that he still didn’t have enough backers to push past the first-term Texas senator. Trumpmania may not be translating to quite as many votes as it would suggest. Among those who said so, Cruz won the support of almost 4 in 10, compared to less than 1 in 10 for Trump.
The Iowa caucuses, the kick-off event of the USA presidential primary season, have revealed much but settled nothing. “It’s a huge step forward for us”.
“A lot of things Donald says are a lot of things we all think, right?”
In accordance with the official tally released early Tuesday with 100 percent of the 1,681 precincts being counted, Clinton garnered 49.8 percent while Sanders won 49.6 percent. He raised $20 million in January and will be well-positioned to build a campaign organization in the lengthy list of states holding contests in March.
Iowa Democratic Party spokesman Sam Lau noted that the flips were to determine county convention delegates, which are only fractions of the state delegates awarded to candidates.
The state Democratic party indicated in a separate statement that it was not ready to make a call. “This fight continues. We fought very, very hard in order to give the people a choice, and the people have made their choice tonight”.

Mr Sanders had hoped to replicate Mr Obama’s pathway to the presidency by using a victory in Iowa to catapult his passion and ideals of “democratic socialism” deep into the primaries. “Ted Cruz proved he could successfully beat back Trump attacks because he had a great ground game and identified well with evangelical voters”. We should watch his returns carefully in the upcoming New Hampshire and SC primaries, where he leads by larger margins than in Iowa. One of the surprises of the night was Marco Rubio’s strong third-place showing, which has imbued Rubio with a certain sense of momentum heading into New Hampshire.
