City coach Pellegrini says he knew Guardiola’s appointment ‘a month ago’

MANCHESTER, England (AP) – Manuel Pellegrini has cause to feel resentment at being handed his notice by Manchester City, even though the mild-mannered Chilean isn’t showing it.

AS notes that the £30.3m release clause would be “pocket change for a club like Manchester City who will be handing Guardiola the keys to the war chest this summer”.

With the news came the reaction.

“But Van Gaal is still there and that puts a bit of pressure on Manchester United seeing that Pep Guardiola goes to Manchester City”.

Soccer Twitter is something to behold.

Not winning a trophy in the 2014-15 season was a failure for a club of City’s ambition. He will face another league to that which he is used to.

Sergio Aguero’s 16th-minute strike ultimately settled a tight game, during which goalkeeper Joe Hart had to make important saves from Jermain Defoe – who had run-ins with both Martin Demichelis and Nicolas Otamendi – Billy Jones and substitute Wahbi Khazri. I will see him for the first time maybe in July or August, that’s a long time from now.

“As a football fan and a friend of Pep, I can say that he loves challenges and I am convinced that a great period awaits his new club”.

“But if the best players in the world are available, you want your club to try to sign them, and if the best coach in the world is available, you want him”.

“Smashing fella but, back then, I didn’t realise he would be a top manager”. You have to struggle on, you have to work hard and be fit for the next game, and tonight I showed what is my strength and what I can give to the team.

“The Premier League is showing bigger ambition and more intent and getting Guardiola to Manchester City is just showing that”, he said.

Asked about Hart’s backing, Pellegrini said: “The players believe in our project”.

“You always have domination at the teams where he worked”.

“If I were 55 or 60 years old, I’d stay (at Bayern) until Karl-Heinz Rummenigge or Matthias Sammer said, ‘Enough, ‘” Guardiola said.
