Rashan Gary, the nation’s top recruit, has decided to play for Michigan

We’re about an hour away from when No. 1 ranked Rashan Gary makes his announcement live on ESPN 2. “It’s going to help me for my lifetime goal, to make sure I provide for my family”.

Ohio State was involved with Gary for a while, but the Buckeyes never really asserted themselves as a major player in the 6-foot-5, 293-pound defensive tackle’s recruitment.

During the 2015 season, the five-star player from Paramus, N.J. had 55 total tackles and 13.5 total sacks.

Clemson has the 8 ranked class in the nation from rivals.com, but could climb if the nation’s top prospect picks the tigers over MI.

So it was no surprise on Monday when his mother, Jennifer Coney, who was deeply involved in his recruitment, confirmed that Clemson and MI were the two finalists and that Gary was torn.

Gary joins running back Kareem Walker, wide receivers Ahmir Mitchell and Brad Hawkins, defensive end Ron Johnson and defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour, who is also one of his best friends, as MI commits from the Garden State in 2016.

With being the country’s top player comes a lot of responsibility.

Academics and the surrounding environment were important aspects in his decision and despite feeling that a few schools were similar in certain categories, MI ultimately made him feel the most comfortable. “It’s not like you just showed up yesterday to recruit these guys”.
