Rick Santorum ends long-shot GOP presidential bid

If Santorum couldn’t make it there, he couldn’t make it anywhere, to borrow some lyrics from “New York, New York”.

Mr. Santorum will both leave the race and make an endorsement, likely making the announcement Wednesday night on Fox News’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren”, CNN reported.

Rick Santorum will suspend his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination on Wednesday night, according to a source close to the campaign.

In 2012, he was also a candidate for the GOP’s presidential nomination and even won the caucuses. On Monday, Republican Mike Huckabee and Democrat Martin O’Malley dropped out after poor Iowa showings. Rand Paul also left the race this week. Santorum earned just 1% of the Iowa vote, despite winning the caucus there four years ago.

Throughout the 2016 race, Rick Santorum was among the handful of candidates whose bid for the presidency had many scratching their head and wondering, “why bother?”

Santorum made similar comments later on CNN.

“The Santorum Campaign is working to reschedule the Senator’s events and he looks forward to returning to SC soon”, the campaign said in a statement. Social conservatives instead flocked to Trump and to Ted Cruz, the victor in this year’s Iowa vote count.
