2014-’16 Mazda CX-5 Recalled for Potential Fuel Leakage Problem

The fuel filler pipe on these model might rupture in a rear collision which would lead to a fuel leak, which will then lead to a fire. Worst-case scenario, a fuel leak near a spark source could result in a fire.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recieved a report from Mazda, who is issuing a recall on its 2014-2016 CX-5 SUV’s.

The automaker said it is unaware of any injuries or accidents caused by the defect. Owners of the affected vehicles have been notified of the recall and they will get the issue fixed for free.

The B-Series campaign lists 19,000 vehicles sold in the US, Puerto Rico and Saipan. Approximately 264,463 vehicles are affected in the U.S. No data for Canada is available at this point. This is the second recall involving the B-Series, as model year 2007-2009 trucks with Takata passenger-side frontal air bag inflators were part of the previous campaign.

In total, Mazda has recalled 442,266 vehicles with Takata driver’s frontal airbag inflators and 416,475 vehicles with passenger’s frontal airbag inflators.
