Bettman: Happy to have John Scott as All-Star
The NHL really did not want him to be in the game, and the only reason he is, is because of the fan vote. All Star games are beyond pointless and stupid, especially the ones that occur during the regular season.

This year, the value of the game has been further undercut by several issues.
He’s here reluctantly, only to avoid a one-game suspension.
The Blackhawks, meanwhile, are the Central division and Western Conference leaders with 70 points through their first 53 games of the season, and they’re listed as the +550 second-favourites on the latest Stanley Cup odds.
Hardly a sign of support from a 43-year-old living legend. Fans voted him captain of the Atlantic Division team anyway, and Jagr has grudgingly shown up for his 10th All-Star Game, and his first since 2004.
Asked how hard he expects players to compete during the event, Pavelski said he expected players would get into it as the games went on. So perhaps the better question is, can three-on-three save the all-star game from extinction? I think the change will change something next year, but he shouldn’t go through that. “I’m kind of a fan at heart, so it’s nice to see they’re behind me here”.
Look, I’ve ripped Scott in the past for things he’s done on the ice and I stand by what I said at the time. “It’s kind of one of those things where it might be the last time, and I hope they have fun with it and kind of get behind me a little bit”.
This NHL rule is pretty stupid.
He said he loves the all-star game as it is, and doesn’t buy into the belief that the players aren’t giving an adequate effort. It’s definitely always like, ‘You’re not in the National Hockey League anymore.’ So it’s neat, though like I’m not used to this and all this scrum and stuff.
Scott’s heartfelt story on The Players” Tribune about his selection entitled “A guy like me’ demonstrates a depth of personality and a warmth not usually associated with hockey’s enforcers.
“He’s a fun-loving guy”, Kane said.
“I’m an National Hockey League player – and, whatever my set of skills may be, that I’m an National Hockey League player is no accident”.
“It’s about finding that balance”.
“And he’s more than welcome to be here”, Bettman said.
Journeyman Canucks defenceman Rory Fitzpatrick narrowly missed making the 2007 All-Star Game, after the “Vote 4 Rory” campaign caught on like wildfire. He said, ‘We’re happy you’re here and we wanted you to be here. For fans to get in touch with players they can relate to. He said, “If I were to bring in the Cup right and and said you could have it right now without playing another game, would you do it?’ And I guarantee you everyone would say no. It’s not about the Cup, it’s about the suffering it takes to get it”. At the urging of Yahoo! blogger Greg Wyshynski, John Scott was elected as captain of the Pacific Division team.
Scott then posed with his teammates behind their $1 million check.
Since the start of last season they are both in the top-five in the NHL in goals and along with all of the production, have been two of the most entertaining players in the league, especially when it comes to Tarasenko, a one-man highlight reel since he entered the NHL three years ago. He was part of a post game scrum too, even after a full day of flying and getting settled in an unfamiliar city without his family.
“I’m going to enjoy it while I’m here”, he said, “and then go back to the real world”. “You get this label and it sticks”.

This may not include any white hot St. Louis Blues breaking news(it’s the All Star Break and no Jaden Schwartz isn’t ready yet so shut it), but I have a soft spot for enforcers so bear with me here. There’s going to be a lot of offensive chances, but they’re trying to do something to spice the game up.
