Clinton Pitches Herself to New Hampshire as Sanders Maintains Double-Digit Lead

In response, Sanders senior adviser Tad Devine objected to “the Clinton campaign dictating all the rules”, and declined to say whether Sanders would take part in Thursday’s debate, which would be hosted by MSNBC at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders does live in the state next to New Hampshire, a fact Clinton is raising again and again as she attempts to lower her expectations for this state’s first-in-the-nation primary that she won eight years ago.

The Iowa Democratic Party said Tuesday that it would not do any recount of the close results, and a spokesman for the Sanders campaign said it does not intend to challenge the results of the caucuses.

The town hall will be aired on CNN starting at 8 p.m. with moderator Anderson Cooper. It will be the first debate since former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley dropped out of the race, leaving just Clinton and Sanders competing for the nomination.

“A lot of political pundits have been opining, as political pundits do, that I should have just skipped coming to New Hampshire”, Clinton told a crowd of supporters here. “And I hope you will choose with both your heart and your mind”.

“I think, frankly, it is very hard to be a real progressive and to take on the establishment in a way that I think it has to be taken on when you become as dependent as she has, through her super PAC and other ways, on Wall Street or drug company money”. On Friday Clinton added another Texan to her team.

As for Clinton, the usually smiling, exuberant 68-year-old pol, was not quite herself, perhaps because of all the commotion over emails and the number done on her by Donald Trump.

“I’m here because I like her”, Chloe said.

“I’m here because I’m for Hillary Clinton”, he said. Though Sanders has fared well among black voters-his style of consumption is less calculated than Clinton’s out-and-out appropriation-he still faces criticism from the black left.

Finally, Clinton’s social media person rested his or her case with “Please feel free to continue tweeting”, a kicker so petty I’m sort of surprised Clinton’s social media person’s supervisor signed off on it.

“I think that’s a very fair question”, Clinton responded.

Sanders is strong with white, rural voters in Iowa and New Hampshire, but needs to broaden his appeal to the large minorities he will face in Nevada and SC and beyond.

Clinton stressed her commitment to campaigning in New Hampshire, while acknowledging that Sanders is leading the polls.

The set-up, less confrontational than a debate format, allowed for lengthier answers and even moments of levity as Sanders described his 1970s folk record as “the worst album ever made” and Clinton recalled dressing up in a cap and sunglasses when she was first lady to take incognito walking trips along the national mall.
