After years of covering Apple patents on wireless charging it appears that Apple may be working on a new wireless charging system for some time in 2017.
Apple is working to overcome some of the technical challenges that come with wireless charging, including safety and a loss of power over a longer distance, according to the report.
However, the company has filed patents related to wireless charging that might eliminate the need for a separate plug-in device.
Wireless charging of smartphones is nothing new.
Apple could be following the likes of Samsung and Sony by putting wireless charging in its next generation of mobile devices.
Exploring cutting-edge technologies the people are eagerly waiting what more will be there for them in the iPhone 7 coming up.
The iPhone was clearly a revolutionary device, but Apple has sometimes struggled to differentiate its iconic handset with high-end Android devices in recent years.
Nonetheless, IHS expects the iPhone 7, expected to launch in September, will include some form of coupled wireless charging, given the launch past year of proprietary inductive-charging docking solutions for the Apple Watch.
Being able to wirelessly charge a device without it requiring physical contact with a charging surface would no doubt increase its appeal to consumers.
This could aggravate Apple customers who were annoyed when the company introduced its proprietary lightning port because it required specialist Apple hardware to use.
