Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Jurgen Klopp sought his advice on how to best approach the Liverpool job after being named his successor in October a year ago.

He was then sent on loan to Turkish giants Fenerbahce to see if he could still cut it at a high level, but it remained unclear as to whether Markovic would remain at Anfield beyond this season, despite the levels of investment.

Meanwhile, could the Reds pay the price for failing to land Brazilian Alex Teixeira during the transfer window?

The Chinese transfer window does not shut until later this month, meaning that he could move on before Liverpool get a second bite of the cherry.

Brendan Rodgers may no longer manage in the Premier League, but hasn’t stopped the Northern Irishman in imparting his unique words of wisdom.

The Daily Express explains that Liverpool and also Manchester City were both preparing to launch a £40m bid for the midfielder at the end of the season, confident that the German outfit would go weak-kneed at the sight of so much wonga. “We will work with them”, the German said, according to the official Liverpool website.

Most Liverpool fans were doubtful of Benteke’s fit for the club at any price.

The former Swansea coach who guided the team to second place two seasons ago, could not re-enact the form that saw Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge mesmerise the Premier League with stunning goals.

They are keen on bringing him to the club on a permanent deal, but are set to miss out on the chance. New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has since recalled a throng of those previously allowed to leave the club, with the likes of youngsters Ryan Kent and Kevin Stewart returning for their FA Cup campaign.
