It felt like a major opportunity missed but Murray and Soares came out fighting and immediately hit back with a break against Nestor, leaving Soares to serve for the title. Live scores for matches will be available on game days via Australian Open’s official website.

Andy Murray got a boost Saturday ahead of his Australian Open final against Novak Djokovic after his brother Jamie teamed up with Brazil’s Bruno Soares to win the doubles title. Djokovic has a ideal Australian Open final record, winning on all five appearances.

It is the first time two brothers have made separate finals at the same major since Lawrence and Reginald Doherty achieved the feat at Wimbledon in 1906. “I don’t know why you’re here taking photos but we’ll be there supporting you”, a tearful Murray said in a courtside interview. “So I have to be proud of that achievement”. Doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past really. “What matters is what happens Sunday”.

Djokovic, 28, coming off an astonishing 2015 which fell only one win short of a calendar-year Grand Slam, continues to put a space between himself and the rest, including the record 17-time Grand Slam champion Federer, 34.

“He loves playing on this court – we’ve played a bunch of times here”, Murray said.

Popular usage to the contrary, the definition of insanity is not actually doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Murray broke the Canadian for the second time in the match in the seventh game, with Raonic wincing in pain.

Sears spent a night in a hospital, but was considered well enough to return home. While his father-in-law was being treated in hospital, Murray at times thought his departure from Australia may have been earlier than expected.

Djokovic earned his spot in the finals when he defeated long-time rival Roger Federer in four sets in the other semifinal.

Both were averted, the second with a strong Murray serve and then they earned a championship point when Nestor volleyed wide. He needed a medical timeout, and later in the fourth set had a massage from the trainer.

“I think someone like Novak is well on his way trying to accomplish that [Calendar Grand Slam]”, Laver said, reports the ABC.

“With the way I’ve sort of started off this year after the difficulties I had, whatever it was, three months ago, not finishing the year, many other aspects, not knowing where I stood, this was the most ideal way to start. I guess that was just the whole frustration of everything getting out”.

“She told me, ‘Congrats, ‘ and she is happy for me, and good luck in the finals”.

Born a week apart, the Serbian world No. 1 has dominated his rivalry with the Scottish world No.2, leading 21-9 head-to-head, 6-2 at grand slam level and winning 10 of their past 11 matches.

It will be a fifth successive Grand Slam final for Djokovic, whose only defeat in Grand Slam competition previous year was to Stan Wawrinka in the French Open final.

For now, Murray is planning on playing. “I have to just believe in myself, have a solid game plan, and hopefully execute it and play well”.

Murray will look to win his first title down under against a familiar opponent in Novak Djokovic, who has denied him three Australian Open titles in his career.
