Eurotunnel disruption following Calais fires

The workers have repeatedly protested planned job cuts in recent weeks, leading in some cases to long queues of traffic building.

It has advised travelers on day trips to consider rearranging their schedule – adding that though protesters have left the motorway, the A16 from Calais is still closed due to the blockade.

Some passengers have experienced delays, and Eurotunnel said that those who have checked in will be offered the chance to travel on any next train with available space.

The French port city is home to encampments of thousands of migrants hoping to stow away on cargo trucks and cars heading to England. Some of the migrants have been seen taking advantage of slow traffic and leaping on to the vehicles.

The actions comes as French farmers blockaded access to Mont Saint-Michel, one of the country’s top tourist spots, for a second day.

They are furious over low milk and meat prices and say they have yet to benefit from higher charges in supermarkets.
